A collaboration on wheels between Yamaha & VPK Group
A collaboration on wheels between Yamaha & VPK Group
Yamaha is a well-known name within the mobility sector and is music to the ears of anyone with an affinity for motorsport. Yamaha is expanding its product range and will soon launch its brand new e-bike, which requires suitable e-commerce packaging. For that so-called bike box, the versatile Japanese manufacturer landed at VPK.
ONE FOR ALL
The Yamaha bike box had to meet several wishes and requirements. As always, our technical expertise emerged and our answers and solutions went the extra mile. In the end, VPK developed one e-commerce bike box suitable for the three different e-bike models: mountain, urban and gravel.
STRONG STEEL
The biggest advantage to the bike box is that the bike can be rolled out of the packaging by means of a 'slider'. When the bike box is opened, the bike is free and fixed. In this way, the packaging improves ergonomics during consumer unboxing and provides the necessary protection to avoid damage during the transport of valuable products. In addition, the bike box is strong enough to return if necessary. The box has a large circumference of 2 metres by 32 centimetres by 1.20 metres. Even with this size, the packaging is delivered to several countries in Europe.
FULLSERVICE
One-stop-shopping is one of VPK's strengths, and this has not escaped Yamaha's notice. The Japanese manufacturer therefore looked for a packaging supplier that could provide everything from theouter packaging to the smallest box to store accessories. A versatility of formats was a must. We therefore opted to serve Yamaha from our Courcelles site, because of its flexibility in terms of quantity, printing and the possibility of applying double-sided tape. Thus, the outer box is printed quadri with the digital printing press. Along the outside, the packaging also contains a QR code directing customers to the instructions for use.
SUSTAINABLE DIRECTION
Another reason for choosing VPK was our cradle-to-cradle story. Our products are made from recycled materials. Choosing VPK is therefore choosing sustainability. In our design, no other form of packaging material besides cardboard is used for the entire Yamaha packaging. For example, the bike box consists of 100per cent corrugated cardboard and no other items such as staples or plastic are involved. The result is a completely sustainable cycle.
PROMISING HORIZON
"We have been impressed by VPK's speed and flexibility in coming up with packaging solutions," says Gerrit Viveen, department manager maintenance and engineering at Yamaha. "There was no settling for the standard; on the contrary, VPK came up with alternative creative solutions."
The cooperation with Yamaha tastes like more. For instance, other packaging models for a new type of e-bike are currently being considered. Then, during the design process of the bike box, an e-commerce packaging for shipping spare parts for marine engines was designed and produced. Yamaha's sales department is also considering a corrugated suitcase for the maintenance products of their e-bikes. These are one by one projects after VPK's heart, on which we apply our expertise and creativity and add value for the customer.
