With this green initiative, VPK Group supported a project by Natuurpunt for the development of a large green lung in the northern part of the Gentbrugse Meersen. This sustainable project fits perfectly with VPK Group’s sustainability strategy, which we implement in our daily business operations.

Thanks to the financial support of VPK and other companies, Natuurpunt was able to realise the purchase of the land and trees. The tree species purchased by Natuurpunt and planted by VPK all have the “plant from here” certificate. Because these native trees were grown in Flanders, they are better adapted to the soil and living conditions in our regions, and therefore have a greater chance of survival.

An average tree offsets about 20-40 kg of CO2 emissions in one year. This varies by species and depends on the age of the tree. On average, for a mature tree, you can assume around 22 kg CO2 per tree, per year. So once ‘our’ 1,000 planted trees are fully grown, they can retain 22,000 kg CO2/ per year.

The event provided the ideal opportunity to connect with colleagues outside the familiar working environment. The day ended in conviviality with a tasty organic drink and a delicious snack. A fun way for our employees to engage with their families for a sustainable future and to make the next generation aware of the importance of caring for nature.
